“Setsubun” _ the famous ceremony at temple or shrine in Japan

I will introduce some temples and shrines where is held “Setsubun” ceremonies.

In the last article, I introduced about “Setsubun”.

There are many “Setsubun” ceremonies at temples and shrines around Japan.

Would you like to go these ceremonies?

You can love them !

I will introduce some temples and shrines where is held “Setsubun” ceremonies.

I am sorry not to inform you all “Setsubun”ceremony because there are too much

( ^ v^;) .

 

Chusonji (Hiraizumi in Iwate prefecture, the nothen Japan)

Sumo wrestlers are invited to drive the demons spirits away from people experiencing “ages of misfortune by the way of yin and yang.

 

 

 

Mitsumine jinjya( Chichibu in Saitama prefecture , next to Tokyo)

The “Setubun” ceremony in this shrine is said “Gomottomo sama”.
“Gommotomo sama” is the holy pole looks penis.
It is symbolic of descendants prosperity.

 

 

Narita-san Shinsho-ji (Narita in Chiba prefecture,Next to Tokyo)

It is said that there are no demons in front of the statue of “Fudomyouou”(Stronger God),.
So people only say “good luck in.” Usually sumo wrestlers and famous person attend this event.

 

 

Gojyoten Jinjya ( Ueno in Tokyo )

You can see the demon ceremony as a holy show that demons is drived away.

This show can help your understanding about “Setsubun“.

 

 

Senso-ji(Taito-ku in Tokyo)

It is said that there are no demons around Asakusa-kannon(Common God), too.
So here they also just say, ” Good luck in” .
Usually sumo wrestlers and famous person attend this event.

This temple is very famous for travelers because of a big red lantern.

 

 

 

In Kyoto, there are many historic &amazing “Setubun” ceremonies.

Yoshida Jinjya ( Sakyou-ku in Kyoto prefecture)

You can see the demon ceremony as a holy &historic show.
And at night, there is a fire ceremony.

 

Yasaka Jinjya ( Higashiyama-ku in Kyoto )

Miko“s attend the “Setsubun” ceremony.
You can see “Maiko“s  throwing roasted soy beans.

 

Nagata jinjya (Nagata-ku in Hyogo prefecture, next to Osaka)

In this shrine, Demons are divine messengers of God.
You can see Demon’s show that they burn bad luck out.

 

 

 

Kibitsu Jinjya ( Fukuyama city in Hiroshima )

After throwing roasted beans, there is a competition of a big mouth.
And “Soba” noodle will be served for free.

 

 

 

Kushida Jinjya (Fukuoka city in Fukuoka, kyusyu)

Around “Setsubun”, Big funny Masks are decorated , She is “Otahuku-san” who has many luck.
It is said that you go through “Otahuku-san”s mouth and you can get good lucks.

 

 

Please check “Setubun” ceremonies at shrines and temples where are near your hotel.

It is a good chance to watch Japanese traditional ceremonies because most of them hold it.
